The 2077 eruption of Mt Fujiyama was the worst volcanic eruption in the history of Japan, and was rated as a VEI 6. The eruption was responsible for 37,516 deaths, 77,214 injuries, and over $200 billion in damages, making it the costliest volcanic eruption on record at the time of the event actually occurring. A swathe of and was literally burned to a crisp during the eruption, leading to the area having to be temporarily abandoned until the clearing of debris could be undertaken.

The eruption began on March 16th following a magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Tokyo, just 132 km to the northeast, which caused magma to rise to the surface, causing the first eruption of the volcano since 1755. The eruption continued for 4 months roughly, and is regarded as being the best documented volcanic eruption in Japanese history, and the best Peleean-Plinian eruption documented worldwide. Tokyo was later found to have been buried under 2 meters of ash and mud form the eruption, which took 3 months to .remove from the area so that repairs could begin in earnest.

On April 23rd, Mt Fujiyama's summit collapsed into a caldera following a magnitude 7.9 aftershock form the earthquake that caused the volcano to begin its historic eruption in the first place, setting a ginormous shockwave outwards, which triggered a small tsunami in the Sea of Japan, killing 255 people in the process.

Rebuilding in the areas affected by the eruption took 35 years following the devastation left behind by the eruption, which eventually came to a cost of $244 billion to repair fully. Agriculture int he area also took 15 years to break down the ash in plantation fields, reducing the amount of food available form home-produce, and leading to an increase in the amounts of food having to be imported form other countries as a result
