The 2147 eruption of Ambrym was an incredibly violent eruption, and was the biggest ever recorded for the volcano, being rated as a VEI 7 by the USGS later on. The eruption led to 841 fatalities, and $5 billion in damages as a result. It was the 8th biggest eruption of the last 2,000 years.
